I got a call saying I have criminal charges and I need to call the State office at 714-482-3318. I work in an attorney's office and now this is false. Who do I report this too?
I was so confused wondering who the hell i pissed off and had the bright idea to google this number and this came up thanks guys i was for sure confused as hell. seriiously a scam
I received the same call this morning; on the cell first then at my work, person with a very heavy accent saying he was with the attorney generals office that charges were being filed and that the sheriff was going to come arrest me; when confronted he said he couldn't give me any information about so called charges and that I should call back and speak to lloyds, he would not transfer the call. I also work for an attorney's office so I know that if there were charges being filed they aren't going to give me a heads up that someone is going to come arrest me.
We received the same call, same scam, etc etc. I blocked my number and called them back until they finally answered. The guy answered, and my charm kicked in. I was talking to the guy with a lot of commotion in the background, he said they were colleagues and that yes it was a scam. He said it was not something HE was proud of doing but they get thousands of dollars a day... $300 here, $700 there... I told him he must be embarrassed that he can't even look his mother or father in the eye and say he had a good day at work. Obviously a religious man he said, "I know I will not be forgiven for this.." by his God and family, he continued to say. He said he was young, 19, not sure I believed it, he said they were trained to do this, all of the people in the office. He said they are in India, in a 5 story building. Again, unconfirmed info, but we spoke for several minutes and I think he actually developed a crush as he kept saying he will never forget me and will think about me every single day. Very [***] weird.
He certainly would not disclose too much, but did say that it's not just one person, and then said "behind every successful man is a crime.."
I told him to get job, he said he wanted to and would do so in a year. Definitely feels a little guilty. But still he is a piece of [***], which I told him.
He said the FBI has been trying to locate them, etc etc.
He said they won't stop as they have people who train these callers.
I suggest blocking your phone number, *67 and then dialing the number, then calling them like crazy!!
I would also suggest informing your employer that you have been scammed and that they may receive a call from someone portraying a State Lawyer or District Attorney.
Anyway, I wish I could have gotten more info, the guy on the phone didn't tell me how they get the numbers, he just said they make $30k a day.
Pathetic.
I too, received a phone call from an individual who spoke with an Indian accent and identified himself as "Mark Hartfield"??? I did not answer the phone at the time, but this person left a voice-mail on my phone. He said it was in regards to a matter that was extremely time sensitive and that either I, or my attorney, needed to get back in touch with him right away. He also said that if I chose to disregard the message; that all he could do was wish me good-luck as the "situation unfolded" on me. The whole message was non-specific, and clearly a veiled-threat of some sort. After listening to the voice-mail; I then went online and looked up the phone number he left me, where I then found this website and it confirmed my suspicions that this was an extortion-scheme pure and simple. I have not been "victimized" by this person because I have not responded (Thank-You!!!!), but I still intend to report this to my state's attorney general.
I got a message on my voice mail about a lawsuit against for a loan from Cash Advance USA. I called the number back several times but did not get an answer. Today, a man with an Indian accent called me again. He was rude and yelling. He said you shutup and listen: "You have criminal charges against you for taking out a loan in the amount $300 and using your bank account to deposit funds. The state of California has pressed charges and an office will be there to pick you up at your job to take you to jail." I simply replied that I have not done any business with Cash Advance USA. He hung up the phone and I called the number back but it went straight to voicemail to a lady named Karen. I have read many reports and clearly see this is just a scam. BEWARE!
