They are counting on the victim's ignorance on how the legal system works. You would be surprised to find out how many people actually believe you can be arrested for being in ordinary civil debt.
Or that debt collectors have influence on public prosecutors.
Many people believe, apparently that the IRS can order local police to carry out tax policy, or that you can be arrested for errors on your taxes.
Many people simply believe whatever some cold calling scammer tells them.
General ignorance of the basics of the legal system and US tax system, work to the benefit of scammers.
CID Out of Area, robo call from Northern Orange County area, probably spoofed, stating I (no name given) was named in a lawsuit, and needed to call back this same number. Obvious fraud and scam call, like others.
Caller id said Anaheim, CA... 14 year old child received robo-call stating there had been a legal claim made against her and she was listed as the prime suspect. She was asked to call back at the number given and they would see her in the court room. I really wish there was a way to stop these calls. Scary for a young girl.
I also received a robo-call from this number stating that I (no name specified) was a suspect in a legal matter and needed to call the number back. I did not call them back!! Probably a scam.
Received a robo-call (at 6:30am) stating I (no name given) was a prime suspect & to call back & that they'd see me in the court house. I did not call back because of my suspicious nature & them not having mentioned my name. Is there no way to file a complaint?
