I got an "arrest" call today. So. . I posted their number on all my social media, and we blew up their phones for hours, hundreds of people calling. They finally stopped answering.
Receivd a call from James William at John Hill lawfirm. Stating I owed a Cash Net loan in the amount of $627.33 now debt is $4,327.00. Said that they will have an officer at my office in 2 hours to arrest me.
This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
ABC News released an investigative report on this scam in June. The FTC has indicted one of its ringleaders for criminal fraud:
I just filed a complaint with the FTC. Thank you for your help on this. It freaked me out at first because my husband had been getting calls from a payday now place about taking out a loan. I know that neither one of us ever took one out (I keep the checkbook and know about all deposits into the account). I will notify my bank and employer as well. Thanks again.
I also just received a call from William White who had a very strong Arabian or that area accent and said he was with the John Hill Law firm. He said that I was going to be arrested the next morning if I do not make arrangements to pay settlement of $362 or pay a judge over $6000. He told me it was from a place called Net Cash whom I called and they had no such info on me and said that they heard about this guy doing this and that it was a scam.
