I received a voice mail message today 7/21/14 that stated:  "We have received a legal case against you and for that reason you will be getting arrested from your physical address or your work place.  And if you need any further information, you can reach me at (855) 792-6477.  See you in the court house."  The number was from that same number that they left on the voice mail message.  When I called the number back someone did answer the phone.  He said that he was representing the John Hill Law Offices and that I had 3 warrants out for my arrest and he wanted to verify my address so that he could send the local law enforcement agency to take me into custody.  I knew that this had to be a scam, I do not have any warrants out for my arrest.  I pressed him with questions, he did get agitated with me for asking questions.  And was very impolite and even used curse words with me on the phone.  He then threatened me by saying that it would be best if I just hung up the phone otherwise he had enough information against me to cause me a lot of trouble.  He had a heavy accent, sounded possibly Indian or Pakistan or something of that sort?  I contacted my State Attorney General Offices and they directed me to report this to the Credit Bureau and to also file a report to my local law enforcement, and to go online to file it with the state attorney generals office.   This is completely a scam!  They need to be found and held accountable for what they are doing.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.
