Getting multiple calls from Cawley bergman @716-635-9550. If it's a collection agency I don't know why they are calling me. I owe no one. How do I make the call stop?
Ironically, I just browsed their website http://www.bronsonandmigliaccio.com/about_us.html and they mention the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practice Act). You all will get a chuckle when you read their "About Us" section. Wayne, I would suggest calling them back and asking what they are looking for because they are actually for-real. And apparently, they enjoy wage garnishment, levy on property and liens on bank accounts. If you don't owe anything, then there is nothing to worry about and quite possibly they will stop bothering you. Otherwise, if they don't stop bothering you, then get their info off the site I provided, and go to the www.ftc.gov site (Federal Trade Commission) and file a complaint. you can also file a complaint with the New York Bar Association at www.nysba.org since they are real lawyers. (Very rare on this site!) Do you happen to have any old debt that is past the statute of limitations that you can remember? They also have a habit of trying to collect what they call "zombie debts" which are debts that a debtor can no longer be sued for and are no longer on your credit report. But, if the debtor pays even one penny of the debt, the collector is allowed to re-age that debt and put it on the credit report. Any other questions you might have, I'd be happy to answer if I can.
I had a similar call like that today, so what I did was call the credit card company to find out if they had my debt and credit card company said that Cawley + Bergman did not have my debt and they didn't know who they were but Cawley and Bergman said they had my debt not only didn't they have my debt but they also quoted the amount I owed at one time but there quote was 500.00 higher than what I owed plus I would have to pay attorney fees. The manner I was spoken was similar and by the same Jamie Johnson. It was a good thing that I had enough sense to check because they gave me 24hrs to respond and settle within another 24hrs I couldn't believe it, that's why I checked , I didn't think this was how the creditors was trained to act when they call, but I see it is. They need to be retrained on how to respect their elders.
I made a good faith payment to these snakes. They have continued to withdrawl funds from my checking account. I have closed the account. And Lawyered up!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its illegal....file for bankruptcy its cheaper!
