I received a similar call with the person identifying herself as from the Treasury Department, saying that an arrest warrant had been issued for nonpayment of taxes. When I replied that I always paid my taxes I was told to just wait for the police. I went to the Treasury Department website and filed a complaint. Go to www.tigta.gov and click the red button to report this number, with the details of the call. My caller was also very East Indian sounding.
Received message on answering machine; took me 4 times listening to the message to figure out what the female caller was saying (THICK Indian/Middle Eastern accent). Department of Legal Affairs of the US Treasury. I believe she said there was a judgment against my name, and I thought she said I should have an attorney call them, although in hindsight it may have been a threatening comment - such as, "if you don't call us back, you'll need an attorney" or something to that effect. Since all of these messages make note of the Indian/Middle Eastern accent, I'm suspecting it is a scam being run in a call center in the Middle East.
It really frosts me to have wasted so much time and effort on a scam call! But we must protect one another, and especially the elderly, against such shameless hucksters.
I just got the same message. she had a Very thick accent but her name was "Lisa Jones". I mean come on, they are not even trying at this point to sound credible.
Just got voicemail saying there is a legal case against me and that I should call with my retaining attorney. Lisa Jones sounds very scary so I am not calling back.
This is a debt scam, and you are wise not to call back or answer calls. Lisa is crook, and the scam works by harassing and scaring you with lies. They want to pay money you can't afford on a debt that does not exist. Block and ignore. They will lie, threaten and harass you, and the best way to beat that is to NOT talk to them. If you owe money to a legal debt collector, you would be notified by US Mail. Not a phone call, not an e-mail or a fax.
There is no summons, no warrant for your arrest. No one is on the way to your house or your job to take you to court or jail.
