9:55 am EDT I received a call from this number. I quickly Googled the area code: New York. I don't know anyone close to me there, so I Googled the rest of the number and found this list. They did not leave a message.
What I do is talk try to talk to the person for as long as possible , providing all false information and then at the end when I want to hang up tell them to "take me off the calling list".
This has two huge benefits
1. You waste the Operators time and really make them mad and the time you spend talking to him you are doing other people a favor because they cannot call other people.
2. Since you have asked them take you off the list, they have to oblige it by law or you take them to court.
I used to receive 3-4 calls a day, but with this approach I have not received a call.
Start by filing a complaint with the FCC, FTC and Attorney General's office. Calling their 800 number will probably be faster but you can do it on-line. Litigation against these scammers won't begin until tons of people complain. That's about all you can do, short of changing your numbers. The Do Not Call List doesn't work. In fact, I think the scammers get that list and then call because they know they have an actual functioning telephone number.
Anita, or anyone else. You may know this but in case you dont. There are two no call lists. One for the state you live in and the other is a national no call list. I didnt know that until a few yrs ago. I was also still recieving calls when I was on the Missouri No-call list. But I wasnt on the National No-call list. That did the trick.
