That is their same MO they scare you. They threaten you. They call names and get loud. When you ask for a physical location or a debt validation letter you will never get it!!

What has happened is they have purchased your personal private information. The original debtor sold it to them more than likely. They make calls to scam and they such you dry if you give them your checking account number!! So do not!!!! Also they work with Money Pak and Green dot corp. Money pal will claim that they have fine print on the back of their card and they will not identify the crook you paid. They support this activity and cover for them.

Private Investigator
Hi All,

My name is Joe. I am a private detective in Chicago and have been trying to track these scammers down for six (6) months, since they first started harassing my girlfriend with this clearly BS tactic.

Based on my research, it seems this fictitious company, Recovery State Solutions, may be getting their personal information from SIMM ASSOCIATES & HSBC, a legally recognized (although still morally bankrupt) debt collection firm operating out of Newark, Delaware, phone (302) 238-2800.

If anyone else on here has a valid debt (often a student loan) with SIMM ASSOCIATES & HSBC, please post that in the comments. I spoke with a manager of Simm Associates today who denied any involvement with such scams before promptly hanging up the phone. I suspect they are in cahoots and if I can prove it there will be a class action lawsuit and federal wire fraud charges heading their way.

Your help is appreciated.

tired of harassment
I have been being harassed by these companies for 2yrs now. I have never had a payday loan in my life, not married, and my child is disabled and  cannot work, yet they keep calling as different company names saying the sane threats but refuse to give me information.   They will threaten with jail, prison, state to state extradition, fines, fees, etc etc.  I would like to be able to answer my phone again after two years, but they keep changing the #s & names.  I'm tired but they don't go away, they just keep themselves as a moving targets to avoid prosecution.  Do NOT provide information, do NOT trust them, Do NOT pay them.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

•is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
•refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
•asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
•exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

•Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

•Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

•Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

•Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.
