I had a similar experience as the others listed here. The caller identified himself as David Watson and said he was calling to resolve my computer problems. I would have been more alert to the hoax if I had not just been speaking to a legitimate representative from my Internet Provider the day before who also had a think Indian accent. He had told me to expect a call today from someone who knew more about fixing the problem than he did. Unfortunately, I did a few of the things he asked, but because my Internet was still not working (thankfully), he failed to complete his mission. He actually suggested that I called my IP again to get the Internet fixed and he would call me back to continue the process. I was unable to get the problem resolved, but by then I had a problem with pop-up ads. I called Norton support who was able to help me clear some of the problem and then later my IP helped me resolve the rest of it. The bad guy called back, and when I asked him why Windows support would be calling me and for a phone number where I could verify his identity, he gave me this number. I did a reverse check and voila! I'll certainly be more alert next time.
I get calls from these folks saying they have gotten reports of warnings from my Windows computer... I now just keep them on the line and play with them, but finally just tell them the only Windows I have are closed and doing their job by keeping the dirt outside... I get 4 to 6 calls a week, usually in the morning or at dinner time. I don't even own a Windows computer...
I received a phone call this morning from 786-224-0184 (the return number they gave me) the number they called me from was actually (Texas) 903-014-6995. They wanted to scared me by telling me my computer was going to crash and so forth... so of course I was worried.. I spoke with 3 different people... who did not speak English well. (India) told me they work for Windows and could not tell me which computer had the problem (when we have multiple)... It was a scam I have reported to the Committee on Aging at (855) 303-9470. if you receive the call do not answer they want to hack into your computer. They are very rude.
Received a call from 213-271-1644 by the name of Sam Anderson with an foreign accent , he stated that there they had received some warnings from my computer about microsoft issues. I informed the caller that I was going to have my IT Person to check on the issue, he tried to keep me on the phone so I ask him for a number so I could call him back he gave me 786-224-0184. I called the number back after doing my research on the phone number and complaints that may have came from this number. I called them back and informed them that I needed to put them on three way with microsoft and Army IT help desk since the military had just checked my computer... He then informed me that he had my information, and that he was going to contact the Army IT and microsoft help desk for me to address the issues. What a punk!!! He started stuttering and hung up the phone on me.
I get a call like this about once a month. The number was blocked (unknown) They said they server had detected error messages from my computer indicating it was being infected from the internet. I lead them along long enough to get then to tell me they were Windows group in a company PC Support with the number 786-224-0184. At this point I told them I was going to report them and they hung up.
