Funny Andy Collins just called me from a Chicago area code (312) 465-1378, ext 3009. He sure moves around. I didnt speak to him, but he left a voicemail and referred to me by 2 different last names. He also said he was calling about a summons of complaint and that this called served as my notification. That if I want to avoid legal proceedings to call and rectify this matter immediately. I'm not calling but I am going to file a report.
Claims to be from Retrieval Mediation. Called and said he had a payday loan from Access (?). I asked for him to mail me info and he refused. He had the last four digits of my social, my address from five years ago, my ex-wife's name (we've been divorced 19 years). It's a scam.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
