That's not crazy, it is the "VOIP phone number" which is used for computer-to-computer calls.
These call originators don't have a phone number until they want to call PSTN numbers. Services like Magic Jack, Vonage, Google Voice, Skype, provide phone numbers when the customer pays for it.
VOIP= Voice Over Internet Protocol
PSTN = Public Switched Telephone Network
Received a call from 801-448-0967, CallerID showing "Not Available". Blocked call while still ringing using call blocker device. Area code 801 covers part of Utah but this is probably a spoofed number, anyway. Don't know anyone in Utah and any legitimate caller would display CallerID info, so for the time being I'll just block the area code '801'.
My 81-year-old neighbor got a call from this number yesterday, but she wasn't home, or she would have answered it. She gets calls like this every day, and no matter how many times I tell to stop answering calls from numbers she doesn't know, she keeps doing it. She's been getting calls from Jamaica (area code 876) telling her she's won millions of dollars and/or a car but she has to pay taxes before they can deliver her prize. She got a call Monday from someone claiming to be from the Reader's Digest "Prize Patrol", and they said they would be at her house in two hours with her check. I gave her an 800# to call Reader's Digest, and they told her it was a scam. Nobody showed up that day, but then they called her again yesterday and told her they would be at her house at 9 AM today, so I told her to call the sheriff's office because now she is scared to death.
