That's not crazy, it is the "VOIP phone number" which is used for computer-to-computer calls.
These call originators don't have a phone number until they want to call PSTN numbers. Services like Magic Jack, Vonage, Google Voice, Skype, provide phone numbers when the customer pays for it.
VOIP= Voice Over Internet Protocol
PSTN = Public Switched Telephone Network
I got one call around 4pm on Thursday. After my machine picked up I heard a click and a dial tone.
I get so many of these types of calls, oddly AFTER they invented the Do Not Call list of which I am a member of. Before that, I actually didn't get many of these calls at all.
I think these scammers are using that huge database of phone numbers on the Do Not Call list for their crap calls.
A few days ago I got one from "Officer David Carter of the IRS" threatening me and saying do not ignore this message. Others got the same call as I found on this site. It had a 202 area code, making it look like Wash DC is calling.
I bet it's from India, Nigeria, or some place like that.
CID read "CIAVF". I blocked the number instead of answering. I never answer a number I don't recognize or that the cid reads such as this or especially "unavailable". No message left
801-448-0967 Calls talking about some police dept in Michigan needing donations. Apparently an online VoIP scammer cum cheater on loose possibly operating from some other country. Wonder why is it hard to catch these crooks ?. Never let them go, report them to police, FBI, attorney general or wherever possible.
