This is definately NOT a scam number!! If you know someone serving in the middle east, pick this call up! It is from a military issued satellite phone. Like other callers have said, sometimes you have to be patient because the reception can be bad and/or it can take a few seconds to connect. I don't know why all the satellite phones over there show up as this number, but they do. They can also show up as other 808 numbers, so pick them up too. It's a Hawaiian area code, so you won't be charged anything extra.
In response to Tiffany - It depends on what organization they are with, their rank, their mission, and so many more details as to how many calls they are allowed on a satellite phone. Most likely if they're calling from one, I would imagine they probably have regular access to it.
Don't miss these calls. My boyfriend who was just transferred to northern Iraq called from one of these relayed thru Hawaii and I missed it :( But got the voice mail and he's doing well. Thank goodness :)
My Son call this AM from Afghanistan. Military calls are via satellite phone setup relayed through Hawaii into the continental US. In case of transmission trouble there are many other relay points. With a loved one in the military the safe bet is to answer any call.
I have a friend serving in Iraq.... I had a missed call from this number and I found all of these comments. I'm so glad I found out who it was and where the call was coming from. Sad I missed his call, thankful he is still here:)
