Received a call stating there was malware on my computer. I was bored, so I played along for a minute and enthusiastically said, "oh no, that's terrible. can you help?" He said he could help and asked if I was scared (he sounded so helpful and concerned), then he asked if I was in front of the computer.
I said I was scared and asked which computer he was referring to...he immediately hung up.
An Indian guy called stating he was from microsoft, and that my computer has been sending signals to him. I asked him "if he has been getting signals from my pc" And he stated "Yes your windows computer has been sending signals to me" So I said "your wrong I own a mac, you got the wrong number" and i hung up. ITS A SPAM. I THINK THEY ARE TRYING TO HACK INTO PEOPLE COMPUTERS.
People, these are spoofed phone numbers. My caller ID said Carmel, NY. I've called several of these numbers(with my own number blocked, of course) and gotten the same message with the same voice: If I want to be dropped from their "special promotions," press 1. Yeah, sure. I never pick up for these [***]. The government can't stop this, simply because many of them aren't even in the U.S., and aren't calling from the number that appears on your caller ID. Ah, the price of living in an "advanced", technological age.
Received a call from 845-842-7115 on 6/3/2015 at 6:51pm EDT. Caller ID displayed "Carmel NY". Did not answer and no message was left.
Based on the comments posted it appears that this another number being used by the "Tech Support" phishing scam. I have added the number to my GV block list.
