Annoyed in Oregon
This is the fourth number they've used.  I have blocked them each time.  I see from the complaints of others, these people are are debt collectors.  I have no outstanding debts, neither did my husband.  I don't know why they are calling here.  They never leave a message.  I am really frustrated with them, because apparently even if I call them back, they will not stop making the calls.  I am pretty sure they're trying to reach the folks who used to live in our home.  They've been gone from here 17 years.

Nice to know I'm not the only one this happened to.

Who Cares?
These D-bags are blocked again. They will have to come up with 10,000 more numbers to call from before my call blocker is full. I owe no money. I pay all debts in full at the end of the month and have been doing so for decades. My credit score exceeds 800 month after month. Just got my credit report (as I do each year three times), it is clean. There is nothing on it to indicate anything but perfect payment on all accounts and debts. What is up with these morons? PRA is a collection of brain dead mutants who are ready for prison.

Fake Collectors
They aren't "real" debt collectors!  These are identity thieves who have hacked into your personal information and are trying to extort money based on any type of prior loan, utility bill, credit card to make you think that you still owe money.

The Statute of Limitations (SOL) varies from state to state but it usually has nothing to do with them calling you.  Basically, it is a law that limits the time period when a creditor, including debt collection companies, can file a lawsuit to collect money owed.  In California, for example, I believe it is 4 years for credit cards.  That doesn't mean that they can't still attempt to collect past that date, they just can't get a judgement in court.  I am not sure if there is a limit as to how long they can attempt to collect a debt.

Basically if your debt is more than a few years old you should think twice before paying because they probably don't have any recourse other than harassing you via phone calls and mail.  To stop the calls you can send them a letter stating that you only want to be contacted via mail, and they are, by law, obligated to honor that request.  If they violate it, there are stiff fines.  Not sure they really care though.
