It's entirely possible these callers are NOT from St. Jude's, even though the caller ID indicates that. Scammers can fake anything they want on your caller ID.
As in EVERY cold call you get for ANYTHING: do NOT give out your credit card or bank account number.
If you want to donate to the charity, look them up online or find a real phone number, call it, and ask if they can send you information in the postal mail.
Too often a scammer will pose as a valid organization in an attempt to scam you out of money. As if that weren't bad enough, their constant calling gives the real organization a bad name. Do you really think the real St. Jude's would keep calling you if you asked them to stop? Think about it.
We give to St. Jude via letter they send in mail. St. Jude insists they DO NOT make phone or robo calls, especially to those who have already contrbuted through their mail solicitatioin. Scammers are fooling your Caller ID by illegally using the St. Jude name. This is criminal and if you send money to the scammers you are also depriving those children being served by St. Jude who really need the money. Scammer who prey on us by falsely using the name of a legitimate organization are scum of the earth and if apprehended and conviced should serve hard time
St. Jude's makes efforts to stop the scammers who telemarket using their name that appears on Caller ID. These scammers are buying inexpensive "spoof cards" over the Internet that can be used to enter any phone number and business or personal name that comes up and spoofs your Caller ID. BTW, the phone companies, including AT&T have the technology to enable their customers to block these calls by the hundreds. But the phone companies will not invest in this technology because, as one AT&T employee told me, "we're getting out of the landline business and will be completely out within 5 years." Many of these scammers who use legitimate organization names are not based in the U.S. and therefore are hard to find and prosecute. But often the U.S. area codes and numbers they transmit to your Caller I.D. are real U.S. numbers they rent or lease fro Pacific Tel, a sleaze bag corporation.
Been getting calls from several #'s with this 901 area code - the first time I answered it they said they were calling on behalf of St Judes Childern's Research Hospital & were have a special donation drive for a new project they were building to target specific brain cancers & they were calling past donaters to support the "cause". They wanted my credit card info to donate but told them I didn't have a credit card on me so asked them to send the information to me. I did get the donation information about a month later so I sent them in a donation, but then got a 2nd request send stateing that I didn't send them the original donation - this has turned me off from St Judes for donations now. I know that they are do good but stop calling every day - I now refuse to even answer the phone when I see the 901 area code - they never leave a voicemail as to who they are & why they are calling. Getting annoying. How can you stop this?
