I just got the same message from this number & they knew my name i called my cell phone carrier & had them block the number because the message said they were my cell phone carrier & when i called them they said they didnt call
This number has been calling me for the last week. No messages are left, and when I've answered I received no response.
I DO owe Verizon a payment (I'm 10 days overdue, blame it on final exam brainfarts), but why they wouldn't call from an 800 number is beyond me. Why should I waste my minutes taking a call from their collections agency? Want my bill even higher?
At any rate, it'd be nice if they'd answer when I answer. If it's Verizon they ought to be professional enough to leave a message.
For some people (including me) this IS a call from Verizon regarding late payment. My day office is right across the hallway from a collections bureau - so I know how they work from talking to the people there. Rarely does any large company handle their own collections - they get a collections bureau to do it. And that collection company contractions with hundreds of companies who have debts to be collected. So, while this # is calling me about my Verizon bill, it could be paying another person who commented here about their ATT bill or any other bill they might have been late on. (The company across the hall does collections for both one of the local hospitals as well as the Franklin Mint - those collectibles that people buy - and about 50 other companies.)
Got six phone calls from this number. Called the number back and they claimed to be a "message retrieval line". I asked for their info (operator number, location) and would not give it out. Name of the person I called was "Dee Dee" said she was in Wilmington, NC; however the number is Wilmington DELAWARE (whoops on her).
I promptly hung up on her and called verizon to verify and they told me- THIS IS NOT THEIR NUMBER OR PART OF THEIR COMPANY--DO NOT FALL INTO THIS SCAM. Verizon said they will NEVER call you and ask for info like that so don't be naive--- always check into stuff before you give info out.
