If you have an answering machine, you can outfox these predators. Record Special Information Tones (see the attached url to hear them) at the beginning of your outgoing message. This tells anyone using an autodialer that the number is out of service. A real person won't care, but then they have to listen to you tell them off. I've used these tones for the past few years and the number of telemarketing calls has dropped. I sincerely hope it helps other people to avoid these pests.
I appreciate the information posted here by others. A smarmy voice announcing a survey of political opinions has been calling for the past few weeks. Until now, I have not paid attention to the phone number. I hang up as soon as I hear the familiar canned voice. The latest call has no sales pitch, just an irritating silence. As disabled family members sometimes call collect from cells and public phones that entail a short wait, I am always put in the position of thinking someone I care about may be encountering an emergency. This unnecessary and uninvited phone calling is not merely irritating.
Thank you for all your comments. I was just phoned by this number but tripped over my dog on the way to the phone so by the time I got there- no one was on the other side. Won't bother to get up next time- will let the answering machine take a message. Again thanks for all the honest comments and words of advice
Yesterday got a call from Washington DC area code, which I didn't pick up, no message on the machine. Today if from this Portland area code. I live in Whitehorse, Yukon. Thanks for all these posts.
They keep call at all hours.. late and super early.
VERY annoying. I called back but it never gets through.
Occassionaly they leave a message about a survey they are doing.
