Received the same call this evening. I run all macs so this guy with a thick indian accent calling himself Kalvin Parker says that my microsoft PC contact his company to report that a hacker is breaking into my computer raised an red flag. I started to question everything knowing that he was a scammer. "What company are you with?" "What is your phone number?" Although he never gave out a contact phone number he did say that he was with the "Anti-Hacking department" at Microsoft. Knowing full well that Microsoft doesn't have sch a department, I asked what city he was calling from.
Everyone who knows tech knows that Microsoft is located in Redmond Washington. I was hoping to trip him up. He did even better that that! Living in canada myself, I wasn't expecting him to pull a canadian city out of his [***]... but he said what I thought was an odd pronunciation of "Aspen". I thought it was the Indian accent. I asked again. I was clearly two words and I thought my mind was hearing what I wanted to hear. I asked a third time and sure enough he repeated, "[***] Planet, Canada". I had to spell it out to him and he agreed "Yes".  "Indeed you are from [***] Planet," I told him.

Once I stopped chuckling, I proceeded to find out what he wanted. He was willing to direct me to a website where I presumed that if I was a PC user I would have been host to a very nasty virus. Assuring him again that I had a Mac, and asking him once more how my computer managed to contact his company regarding this alleged hack taking place, he quickly changed his story stating that he was contacting all Microsoft windows users to inform them that their computer was at risk. Since Windows XP days, Microsoft sold an average of 12 million windows licences per month, I would say that he has along night ahead of him.

Although this is funny for some one who knows and understands computers, these vultures prey on the ones who don't know costing them money or worse their identity and can ruin lives. If you know of anyone who might fall for such a social engineering trick, please let them know that NO ONE FROM MICROSOFT WILL EVER COLD-CALL THEM AT HOME and to be extra carful of scams like this.

I received two calls from this number over the past two weeks. They say there is a problem with my computer. The second time they called I said the connection was fuzzy and asked for a number where I could call them back. They gave me 415-830-3691 which is a SF Bay Area number. I have not tried that number yet.

This is, of course, a scam.

Just got a call at 9:00 from this piece of filth from 971-217-9514. The dude has called my house numerous times, and this time I actually picked up. He gave me the whole "we're getting error messages from your computer" crap. Thick Indian accent.
I told him I didn't want to hear his bullsh*t, that I'm not some half-wit that surfs the internet for Facebook and falls for his scam. He got extremely rude, so I got extremely rude back. He was informed never to call again, that he was wasting his time. The number is now blocked.
People that do this kind of work are lowlifes.
