1611hrs EDT 06 Aug 2012, Received call from a fellow (East Indian accent) that there were errors in my computer that were causing hang-ups with my Browser and Email. He was insistent that I let him access my PC, not going to happen. He could not answer the following questions:
1. Identify my Internet provider,
2. Version of Windows I am running,
3. Who had requested him to contact me about this supposed problem, or
4. What my email address is?
Don't fall for this scammer. If you are Canadian report any / all calls from 1-971-217-9514 directly to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Office at 1-888-495-8501. The Canadian Feds are working with the American Feds to pin down and bring these bottom feeders to justice.
They called me yesterday. I thought it was weird, but I did just get a new computer and i just registered it,.. so I thought maybe,,, They had me type in eventvwr from the run menu and claimed to show me all these problems my computer had. Then they wanted me to type in iexplore support.me . At this point I was really not comfortable. I told him we were out the door for dinner and I asked for a number to call him back. He ignored my ques and kept talking. I hung up on him. I really feel stupid now that they got so close to scamming me and getting into my computer.
They have been calling on average once a week for a year, when I see the number pop up I just pick up the phone and yell at the guy. He calls twice in a day sometimes.
