I received another "Your computer is infected" scam call from this number. I let the man (who had a foreign accent) know he was a scam and told him to stop calling and hung up.
Normally, I post the caller id information. However, because I suspect it may be spoofed, I will *not* post the individual's name that came up, lest I name an innocent 3rd party.
As an aide, I wish there was some sort of category for this type of call, or an "other" option... none of the other call types seem appropriate.
I got a call from this number at 7:35 AM this morning saying my computer was infected. I laughed, then used some bad words with him. I don't have a home computer that could possibly be infected. (None in the house).
After continuing to talk for many minutes about how illegal it was to call that early, how he was a stupid scam, again I have no computer, he finally hung up.
Yes he had a non American accent.
The name on the caller ID may not belong to the person who called.
I got this call 5:30 pm, told him I didn't have a computer (I do though) I asked where he was calling from - he stated "UK but has authority to contact Windows users. I told him I didn't talk to anyone outside of the US. He hung up. 11-12-14
Well, I just realized the call came in after I'd gone to sleep and I didn't hear the phone ring. No message and the call just says Bay City Michigan. My elderly aunt lives near there, so I was afraid someone was calling me about her. Grateful for all your responses so I don't have to worry about her!
We got a phone call last week at exactly 10PM Pacific time, from a man with a thick accent [Indian] who says he's with a company in the UK and said our computer has a virus. Told him our computer wasn't even on and we don't accept calls from telemarketers...told him we were on the no-call list. He wouldn't listen, so I hung up. Same guy called again tonight at 9:30PM but this time, my wife answered the phone. She listened, then blew a whistle as loud as she could. Our cats were totally unprepared for that. I doubt he'll call back. She gave the same treatment to a guy who called saying he was from the IRS asking for our social security nos because we were going to be audited. The IRS never calls taxpayers and would never ask for SS nos. over the phone. He must not have liked the whistle treatment because we never got another call.
The problem is, even if you do not pick up, the calls will not stop. They are automatic dial and will continue until the AG gets off his dead butt and the phone company puts people ahead of profit. I finally got tired of the calls from 6:30 AM to 11:45 PM and answered the call and told him to stuff it. Unless you turn off the ringer the calls will wake you, even if you don't answer it. Turn off the ringer and you may miss important calls. It is about time that the AG and phone company does something, besides collecting the cash.
