Answered this call because caller ID said New Jersey and I had just had dealings with someone there. Went directly to robo call recording after asking for husband by name. Hung up & blocked!
So much for the DO NOT CALL REGISTRY.
Caller ID shows it from "AM CHILD CANCER"....The first time they called, I politely declined to give. The second time I explained, dealing with 90 year old parents with Alzheimer's. Can't afford to give ANYTHING ELSE to ANYONE but them at the moment. Ask them not to call anymore. They continue to do so, so we just don't answer when we see the name on Caller ID. They never leave a message which is fine. The next time they call, I will do what I always do when I have asked a telemarketer to stop calling and am ignored. I USE PROFANITY. Bad words. Really bad words. They stop calling.
As a solicitation for a charity, this caller is exempt from the requirement to screen against the DNC Registry before calling. However, they are required to place you on an internal Do Not Call list when asked and if they call after 30 days can be reported, fined and sued.

Here is one big problem with the system: Criminals, Scammers and Fake Charities run by criminals break the laws and do not care about your rights. Most of the time, they can get away with it. In the case of the scammers run from India, Pakistan, Africa.... etc.... they almost certainly will get away with it.
This next section will make you angry, but you need to hear it. Your every belief and action is getting you more calls. Getting calls is often the price of poor phone discipline. Do not pick-up calls from unknown numbers/names. You will only get more calls. Calls from unknown numbers/names can be treated with prejudice. If someone is hiding their identity, you can assume they are up to no good. Do not fall into the trap of wanting to know who called. More numbers are "spoofed" (faked) as are the names, company names and addresses. These are crooks and con-men. When you call back to find out who called, you are verifying for the scammers that they have reached a working number and a person who will call back. This info is shared.
Do NOT talk to the callers. They do NOT care if you a day from Death's door, and are down to your last DIME. You tell them that, and they will call you tomorrow and take that dime if they can. And call back the day after to double check.
Bad words do not impress them. Nor do threats, whistles or boat horns. Don't answer unknown calls, don't return calls to see who it was. Get serious about your phone discipline and get a call blocker and ask your phone carrier if they offer call blocking.
If you want change, make sure you first understand the laws at they are, and then go after your State and Fed Reps and demand action.
