I didn't answer the call from this number because I didn't recognize the number.  No voice message was left by the caller.  I'm feel confident it was a call from a Scammer based upon the previous posts left by others in this thread.

I've received 3 calls from these jokers saying that they are a collection agency and they are trying to collect a debt that I own on a vehicle loan from some credit union.
1) I have not financed a vehicle since 1987 - which was a 3 yr loan paid off in 1 year. (Not through a credit union)
2) I do not have any accounts or loans from any credit union.
3) I do not have any outstanding loans or do I have any loans.

If you were behind on a vehicle loan, they would have repo'd the vehicle since the loan is secured by it.  While it is possible they may be trying to collect on the difference between the loan amount and what the vehicle sold for, they are still obligated to follow FDCPA laws which state:

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Read up on your rights here and also make a complaint at this government site:  http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
