I just got a call on from this number, too, they left a recorded voicemail about carpet cleaning. I also have a 201 area code cell phone. I looked up this phone number all over the internet and it led me to an IP phone company based out of England. I called them, acting all innocent and like I really wanted to find out who their NJ Carpet cleaning customer was so I could use their services. They put me on hold for a few minutes and said they couldn't give me any information on the phone number (which of course, is not what I asked!).
I also called Verizon to have this number blocked, but they told me they cannot block a number if it is not a 10-digit number. This is clearly designed this way on purpose to get around anti-spam rules. They are using IP phones to make these calls and putting 9-digit phone numbers in for their caller ID, knowing that companies cannot block them. My phone is on the Do Not Call registry and I never get marketing calls, so I am really curious to know if they got my number off some list or if they're just dialing every number in the 201 area code. My bet is on the latter.
If they call again I will pick up and try to schedule an appointment. If I get anywhere with this I will update here!
Same as above. I have a 201 cell number on ATT, got this call from "Diane" the carpet cleaner. My cell phone is on the do not call list. Registered a complaint with DNC.
I just received a call on my cell from this number today. I didn't pick up but a message was left in my voicemail. The recording was as follows: "Don't wait to treat your house til the last minute. Press '1' to schedule an appointment. Press '8' to be removed. Press '1' to schedule an appointment. Press '8' to be removed".
I tried to file a complaint via the goverment's do not call site, but I got an error message. Not sure if it was due to the number only having 9 digits or if the site itself is experiencing technical difficulties. I'll try again and see what happens.
My husband & I got calls too from that number (201.425.781) on our cells. We had Verizon but switched to TMobile a few years ago & we've had the same number for the past 8 years.
My husband anwsered the phone and the person on the line said they were from Stanley Steemer.
Weird thing is my bosses line at my company just rang and it was the same number!!!
