This was "Amanda", a very pleasant robot voice claiming to be from "Home Protection", making an illegal call in violation of the National Do-Not-Call Registry. "She" was looking for homes to receive a free security system, but the line went dead in the middle of "her" spiel. Darn shame - I LOVE when these folks call. In the past I've had them on the line for 30 or more minutes, asking softball questions about their systems, and, best of all, setting up an appointment for an installation. When an installer comes, I hand them a copy of the NDNCR to give to their superiors, reminding them that they are working for a company that is violating the law with their sales practices, and suggesting that they might do better working for a more stable, law-abiding company. Sometimes you just gotta' fix things yourself...
Caller ID says Washington D.C. "Your business qualifies for a loan of up to $250,000 if I've been in business for at least 3 months". Not much of a requirement.
Since I was expecting a call yesterday, I stupidly picked up the phone around 5:00 P.M. EST thinking it had something to do with a form my wife had filled out online.
They were looking to give my "business" a loan for up to $250k if I currently owned and operated one for at least three months. Since I do not own a business, I knew it was yet another telemarketing call.
I pressed "2" in order to be removed from their calling list, but I doubt this will work. I have since inputted the number into my call blocking device just to err on the side of caution.
I'm starting to think that the caller ID displayed the name of the person (Rachel Krasnow) who previously owned the number. Most of the time it's either "Unknown" or "Toll-Free".
Just FYI, I had also ran into the exact same scenario back in November and December of 2015 under different phone numbers. You can read the comments about it below:
