This was "Amanda", a very pleasant robot voice claiming to be from "Home Protection", making an illegal call in violation of the National Do-Not-Call Registry. "She" was looking for homes to receive a free security system, but the line went dead in the middle of "her" spiel. Darn shame - I LOVE when these folks call. In the past I've had them on the line for 30 or more minutes, asking softball questions about their systems, and, best of all, setting up an appointment for an installation. When an installer comes, I hand them a copy of the NDNCR to give to their superiors, reminding them that they are working for a company that is violating the law with their sales practices, and suggesting that they might do better working for a more stable, law-abiding company. Sometimes you just gotta' fix things yourself...
Free home security system if I let them place an advertising sign in my yard. Everything was going fine until they discovered my home address was the local police department. Caller suddenly ended the call with "do you want to be taken off our call list". "HELL YEA Bi***". What idiot would actually purchase anything from a telemarketer?
same general complaint as all the other replies. But this time when I called the number back to see who it came from, I got a recording in some kind of Islamic language and realized that it may be not only a money scam it may be a security threat. But when I reported all of this to my mobile phone carrier, they said they had no interest in looking into the bogus phone calls. They suggested I call my local police department, who told me they don't follow up on phone call harassment. Looks like nobody's really interested in getting these guys down.
Unlikely to do ANY good. Instead, send them packing eventually by not answering in any way if possible. Numbers that offer no kind of answer become useless for telepests.
