Caller from 202.381.2728 stated he was from the "federal government" department of grants and/or treasury department. Said I'd been randomly selected from among 1500 people in America to receive a once-in-a-lifetime-grant of $9,000. Said his name was "Adam Smith". Accent & unfamiliarity with english words and terms indicated to me that english was not his 1st language. When he couldn't tell me whose faces were on the $100, $50, $5, or $1 dollar bills, I subsequently deduced "Adam Smith" wasn't really an agent of the Treasury, however cleverly he tried to disguise his identity. I did manage to keep him on the telephone for about 20 minutes before he started using profanity (barely recognizable) and hung up.
Got the same call. Foreign accent. Took a while for the connection to be made so I knew it was from overseas. Said he was from the federal government in Wash DC and I've been awarded $9000 from the federal government. Hung without a word. Yeah buddy like the government is just going to give me $9000.
Call took a few seconds to connect. After exchanging 'hellos', I asked caller who he was looking for. He said "I'm looking for you. What's your name?" I immediately hung up and blocked the number.
