This man called me as well saying he had a $9,000 grant for me. Before I could say anything the call dropped, the background noise was awful. Don't answer this call and block.
This call is a scam. Any money that the US government gives to its citizens is required to have an Funding Opportunity number associated with it that can be searched on the Federal government's grant website. The middle-eastern-accented man that told me that he works in Washington DC, and that this was a government grant of $9000, could not give me a FO number that would return a result on www.grants.gov (the official federal website for active grants listings). Grants must be on file at this site for about a year before they are paid out, and each grant applicant must fill out an application in order to receive grant money. The caller told me that I wouldn't find the grant on grants.gov because their website is www.myfederalgrants.com - the fed gov would never use a site not ending in .gov and has this to say about giving out grants or benefits: "Many people have heard that the government will give you money for almost any reason. This is not true. You must complete an application and meet specific eligibility requirements in order to receive financial assistance from the government."
