Great fake names. I guess the scammers were watching SKY-TV in Asia & it was playing 'Treasure of the Siera Madre' again. Usually they pick actors, sometimes even the names of pastry. We had a 'Sara Lee' the other day. Classic!
I received a voice mail message from a male with an Indian accent, stating his name was Alan Barkman, (it was really difficult to understand the language), that I must return the call to the IRS or have my retainer attorney call him to discuss my very important income tax matter. I called the number which I googled first and saw that it was a scam, when another Indian male answered the phone Internal Revenue Service, I asked him why I was contacted and he said you have a problem with the IRS. I said, oh yeah, well I just googled your number and it's a scam to target and fool senior citizens who probably fall will for it. His reply, "thank you very much" and hung up.
Since I recently retired from a federal law enforcement agency, I contacted them and I was told to report it to the FTC, 877-382-4357. It's so sad that honest tax payers of the United States have to put up with these scam artists who are probably calling from another country!
I received a call today from "David Brown" at 202-506-8052, insisting that there is an issue with my tax return. He insisted I call Daxter Cruz at 202-506-8051 to get details. I called Daxter Cruz, and he did nothing but insist I need to give him my home and cell phone numbers. When I refused, he hung up on me.
This foreigner called today and left a largely unintelligible garbled message. He can't speak English well enough to even say the phone number. He had what I think was an Indian accent. After listening several times, I finally got most of it. Said his name was Jose Martinez "from the IRS, the Internal Revenue Service Department", "Department". I called him back after 5 busy lines. He wanted me or my attorney of record to return the call, "extremely time sensitive", "do not try to disregard this message", "call as soon as possible before an illegal allegation takes place".
I told him he had wrong person but he would not give me a ssn or dob. He said I was trying to avoid him so I can just wait & suffer the consequences. He then hung-up!
Totally bogus call from an automated system, claiming they wre with the IRS and unless I called they would file a lawsuit. The IRS doesn't work that way. They would never call you. Notiifacition by the IRS must be by mail and before they file they would send a certificed mail to you. This one is now on call block.
