Same message left twice on my answering machine today. Just got home and heard the message left this morning. Same message left by female with heavy accent.
we had the same message on our phone, medium indian or pakistani accent, woman saying she was from the legal affairs …something..., and she specifically said department of the treasury
but since she did not say any name of who she was trying to call (there is more than one taxpayer in this house), we simply assumed it was a scam and looked up the phone number first (we look up every phone number that demands an action on our part)
I received the same voice message today, 12-8-14 re: Legal Affairs of the US Dept. of Treasury. I'm to call back ASAP because of a tax fraud on my name or they will be forced to call the local authorities if I didn't call back. The woman that left the message was of foreign descent. When I called back the first time, there was a recording saying you're the next person in line then the phone hangs up. I then called the # back within seconds and got a fast busy.
This is the first call ever received, how do I stop them or is there something that can be done about these calls.
There is nothing that can be done. They are hard core Indian or Pakistani scammer/extortionists and are beyond the reach of US law. You can protect yourself with a call blocker an do not pick up on calls you do not recognize.
This is the Department of the treasury, Internal Revenue Service.........blah blah blah. I am advised that a matter of urgency needs to be resolved........ And they have an accent.
I know better! They would send me a letter.
