We always screen our calls so we never answer numbers we do not know. Too many scams, too many people who can use your number to make long distance calls, etc. We are lucky to have unlimited long distance and no out of country calls. BUT that's not the point. How can these people get through when our phone number is unlisted and on the do-not-call registry? How is it fair to those of us who want to keep our lives private? Why do they waste their time? They have to know they are going to make someone mad and get told off. And if they are from a government agency and trying to "give away grants", why would they speak vulgar words? See, this is why we screen every call that comes in, no stress, no worries. Simple as that. :^)
I found this thread very helpful. I just got my second call of the day. Next time I will answer and just see if I can get them to stop calling me. Thank you everybody!
Btw I'm in Wyoming, so it seems like only the country matters to them.
This number called a few times, I didn't pick up and they didn't leave a message. Finally, I decided to pick up. I asked for the company name, US Department of Health (so they claim). I asked them to take me off their "call list" and for a return number to verify that they should have my information. I was given 202-666-9147. I did not call them back.
I received a call today and then asked for a return phone number. The rep said,"the number for now?" I followed up,"Now? What does that mean?" I was given an international random number (not even enough digits for a call. I then asked for a mailing address, the rep said he would transfer me to a supervisor. I asked the supervisor, he responded, "Austin TX".. I asked for a street address, the response was Park Ave. I asked for a physically US mailing address where this company exists. They hang up.
