Why doesn't the government trace these numbers and put these scammers in jail? I'm boggled that someone could go get a US number from D.C. and set up a scam operation without anybody doing anything about it! Information on these scum is on the telephone number registration and right in front of the FBI's eyes, no?
In a word, no. Have you never heard of spoofed phone numbers? Foreign criminals (and US-based ones too) regularly spoof their number to avoid detection.
If you get a call from (202) 683 4280 it is a scam... these scammers are all from India.. bunch of [***] who are computer geeks that steal your info and call you as the IRS or United states treasury. DO NOT CALL THEM just ignore them. They are after people who do not know the law or speak little english. Report them immediately.
I did not pick up the call because I did not recognize the caller id, but they left a voice mail messaqge. The message picked up mid-sentence, suggesting this was a robo call. The message was poorly worded and threatened that "ignoring this message will be an additional 2nd attempt to avoid initial appearance before the magistrate, judge or a grand jury". Definitely appears to be a scam as others have indicated.
