I just received a phone call from 202-864-2535. Don't answer it. It's a scam big time. It's the same message about pay back taxes money you owe.They say they are from Washington DC, don't believe them.....
Same as all the other posts. Where ever these calls are coming from...domestically or overseas...and with shear numbers we see these posts....isn't THIS a kind of thing NSA/Patriot Act could be useful? And in fact easy to use???
I guarantee if our government t could make money on this...they would be there in a heartbeat. Hey...how about tracking the ill-gotten funds And retrieve it back into the US coffers. And if one our allies is enabling this scam....they take it out of their US aid. Come on...this has to be a piece of cake to bust !!
It is unfortunately a bit more complicated than that. These low life scumbags who impersonate IRS agents are predominantly located in India (some also in Pakistan) and to get cooperation with law enforcement there can take a while. But there is a multi-agency task force at work and the Senate has also heard witnesses on what actions will be taken. I just received a call from this # claiming to be IRS and that I owed $3,922 in back taxes from 2009-2011. I must stay on the ph with them, go to the back pull out cash, get a $ order and send the $ order to my IRS agent/rep ASAP or I'll be sent to Fed court.
They also called me back from this number BEWARE OF BOTH #'S 469522-9196
Thanks for all the info. Got all the same BS. Go to www.it's.gov under phone scams to report. I learned that any email not ending in .gov is a scam. Irs can't give out their first if you call. I was greeted by Mrs.Randolph from the 1-800-908-4490 fraud line. Very helpful.
I live in DC and received a call from this number today at 11:56am. The entire message, including errors in English, was:
"The reason OF this call is to inform you that IRS is filing lawsuit against you.
To GIVE more INFOMATION about this case file, please call immediately on our department number 202-864-1122. I repeat ( number repeated). Thank you."
Love the combination of lawsuit threat with please and thank you!
