Got an automated voice saying IRS filing lawsuit against me. Asked to call back to 202-864-1142. Reported to FBI. Impersonating the IRS is a Federal Felony with up to 21 years in federal prison and a civil fine of up to $1.25 million
recorded message stating "the IRS is filing a lawsuit against you" designed to scare people and lure them to call this number. Called the # and was asked my social security number "for verification." Reporting to authorities. This type of fraud preys on the naive.
got it as well today and last week -- automated from a Texas #. Got the call from the 202 # back in April -- was the guy's voice/ Called just now to check -- same guy's voice. I called at 6:45p. Government agencies close at 5p and there is a toll-free number otherwise. and the IRS sends everything in writing (I have owed them money in a past year and had written and phone correspondence with them til it was cleared up.)
Got a call at 11:40 am on my home phone on October 28, 2014 threatening an IRS lawsuit and to call back 202-846-1142. It was a female voice and started as "Hello, I am calling from IRS in regards to the pending lawsuit against you. IRS has issued an arrest warrant against you. Please call this number to discuss this matter". The giveaway was easy because the messages started with "Hello and not my name". Since I had received such calls before I had checked the numbers and knew it was a fraud. What I am not sure is that what happens if you call back the number? I have heard that in some cases there is a huge connection charge that will appear on your telephone bill. Is that true?
We have been getting automated calls from this number about some IRS tax dues etc. When I called that number, a real person answered and talking about some IRS lawsuit. Sounded like a very fake call.. Anybody aware of similar experience? How do we stop this?
It is FAKE - and probably coming from INDIA!! The real IRS mails letters if there is a problem.. RexIRS has plenty if information near the top of this page.
