Caller ID said Washington, DC. Rcvd it at work 1st thing this morning. Automated message from "IRS" regarding a criminal lawsuit they have filed against me, gave a case # that I didn't get, and return phone number for me or my attorney to call 202-864-1724. The end of the message broke up but essentially told me that if me or my attorney failed to return the call "Good luck as the situation totally unfolds on you". Can't believe the IRS would leave a message like this. Pretty sure it's the same scam/new number.
Call me late last night and now again this morning I told him my taxes are paid in full no need for you to bother me and I'm not going to court you'll have to come and get me it's totally a scam
I received this same message and when I started to question them the man got very belligerent on the end of the line and told me that "well its on you if you don't respond immediately" so I hung up and searched google.
I received this call. The message left was an 'auto-generated, computer-voice' and was as follows (using their exact wording):
"Suit filed against you your case number is CH XXX the moment you receive this message I need you or your retained Atty. of record to return the call the issue at hand is extremely time sensitive my phone number is (202) 864-1724 I do not disregard this message and do return the call now it if you don't return the call and I don't hear from your Atty. either then be online thing I can do is wish you a good luck and this situation totally unfolds on you goodbye."
When calling back just to see what kind of response I would receive, the phone rang and rang until it went to a busy signal. I tried back again...actually 3 times...and when they finally picked up, the heavily accented man stated "Yes, how may I assist you"...then a quick, "this is the IRS". I said nothing to see if I could pick up anything else...he eventually hung up. I just called back 2 times and repeated the same action until the man hung up.
I have some more time this afternoon so I'll continue this routine until I tire of it.
Bottom line...don't answer...place on your 'block' callers list...it is definitely a SCAM.
