They were just calling here as well. Same sort of message with heavy Indian accent. I told them to bug off. They kept calling and my husband got increasingly rude Then they would call and he would hang up immediately. This went on for 1 to 2 dozen calls(I lost track). They finally gave up.
Third call from this outfit in a couple of weeks, two male and one female voice, always Indian/Pakistani accents, They tell me they have detected a problem on my "Windows computer". I ask them right back if I do have a windows computer and, if not, what kind of operating system I have. Twice they just hung up and once the guy just switched gears and said they discovered a problem on my Mac and I hung up. It's an obvious fishing expedition. Who falls for this stuff? If they don't know anything about your machine, your location and IP address, browser, etc how can they possibly know your machine has a problem?
Even in this day and age when computers are almost everywhere, not everyone knows that much about computers, and some people are just starting off using computers. They're not stupid. They just haven't learned enough to be able to know it's a scam. And, those are the people that these freaks are targeting. They don't care if they get hung up on a thousand times, as long as they find that one who doesn't know enough about their computer to not give their information or money away.
Just got another call about my "windows computer". Recognizing the voice and the scam from prior calls, I said "yes, I have a window". The guy actually played along...so I had some fun with it. When I reminded him of his call from the "technical department", he said "I will fix your windows, but not your doors." I said, "ok, but how much do you guys make scamming people with this stuff?" He replied, " oh about $500 to disturb you, sir." I hung up after that. Fun...but it's getting annoying.
