Yep just got a call from a company called Help Tech247. Said that we were contacted based on a survey and said they identified our Windows computer was encountering problems due to our Internet usage, (we use Mac computers). I played along to see what type scam this was. Same thing, the guy said the red errors and yellow warnings that showed up in the Event Viewer were security incidents, (which wasn't true at all). I broke cover once we got to the point where he wanted me to install a remote desktop software to allow their expert engineer to gain administrative access to my computer to help fix my problem.
Fellow with an Indian accent called, saying he was from Help Tech & my husband answered. He recognized the scam because he had earlier been called by a woman with an Indian accent who tried to get him go on his computer but hung up when she found out he uses a Mac. Today he told the guy he knows that they're a scam outfit, and the caller actually started challenging him. Turned into a sort of loud argument for about 5 minutes, until my husband said, "There's no point to this. Have a good day," and hung up.
All of our phone numbers are on the Do Not Call list, but that list is obviously not enforced. BTW, howcome "scam" isn't an option to select for Call Type on this website?
This number called my land line today. When I picked up, no-one answer. I immediately came to this website and typed in the number. Good thing I hung up. I love this website. Gonna tell me family to ignore this number. Thank you guys!
