For people who are not understanding.... This is another "I am calling about your computer" scam.
And, this is a spoofed, or fake, phone number.
Do NOT give out any information. Don't even give out your name, and NEVER give out financial information.
Do NOT do anything that the caller asks you to do. They may ask you to go to a website to download a program, or to go to a website to enter information that you shouldn't be giving out. Or, they may ask you to call a number. It doesn't matter what they ask you to do, DO NOT do it.
Instead, FIRST, tell the caller that you know it's a scam. SECOND, tell them not to call again (they may not call again after, but they probably will). THIRD, hang up. And FOURTH, report it to the FCC -- Do NOT report it to the Do Not Call List. They don't handle scammers. And do NOT report it to the FTC, because they don't handle this. Report it to the FCC; because the FCC, the FBI, Attorney General's offices, Sheriff's departments, and police departments do handle these kinds of cases.
You can file a report with the FCC by going to this address (and, please Google this, or use another search engine, to double check the address if you aren't sure): http://www.fcc.gov/complaints
You may also file a report with your state's Attorney General's office directly (after reporting it to the FCC), which you will have to look up for yourself. Sorry. Check your phone book for state offices.
This falls under the heading of "Telemarketing, Prerecorded Messages, Caller ID Spoofing, and Do-Not-Call", so make sure to check that option on the FCC page.
Please remember that the phone number was STOLEN from someone else, and the original owner is NOT at fault. So looking up where the phone number is supposed to be located is meaningless.
And PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE pass this information on, because people don't seem to understand that the Do Not Call list isn't meant for this type of thing AND because people don't know what else to do.

I got a call from this number on my landline today.  The machine picked it up; they didn't leave a message.  Caller ID showed it as "NEW YORK CALL / 212-055-3557".  I found this forum when I Googled the number.

What piqued my suspicions was the fact that the number started with zero.  7-digit phone numbers in the North American Numbering Plan (the US, Canada, much of the Caribbean) cannot start with 0 or 1 for technical reasons.  Not surprisingly, trying to call it back fails miserably -- "Your call could not be completed as dialed."

Received the call at My Mothers house.  She is old and thankfully my Sister took the call. Again this is a scam, and we need to ensure you tell all your loved ones and friends to be rude when call and do not give out the number. I attempted to call and number appears to  be disconnected now.  Microsoft will not conduct this type of call, so never give your computer data to anyone over the phone. If you get the call say, sorry use my Iphone dont have a computer.. Good luck.
