Got the same call. Heavy accent wanting me to go to my computer to see a dangerous virus. I asked how he got my number he said my zip code and name which did not make sense. I told him it sounded like a scam and I was not interested. He got hostile and I hung up on him. Caller ID said McGraw Hill. Don't fall for it!
I too got a call just now. I had them before...so I knew what was going on. The same heavily accented man wanted to speak to the owner of my computer. I said, Sorry, I do not own a computer, they hung up. I had recieved a call from a woman as well in the past. Once again, I tell them I have no computer. They hang up on me. But they always get my name right...how are they knowing my last name?
Got the same call...A man with a very heavy Indian accent. Telling me that someone had placed a virus on my computer and he needed to scan it to make sure. BIG TIME SCAM Hang up on him.
They know your name because they get the phone number from the phone book. If I have time, I like to play with these guys to make them waste their time because I assume they are on some kind of commission program. I pretend to go through the motions but I keep making "mistakes" like I'm some kind of idiot who can't follow instructions. It really gets these guys frustrated. I often make them go back to the beginning and start all over again. When I'm done toying with them I usually say something insulting like "I bet you eat hamburgers when no one is looking".
Scam.... I got this call today. they asked for a random name and then I told them they had the wrong number and they wanted to know who it was they were speaking too. I said look you have the wrong number and If you call me again I will have you reported to the FCC. They quickly disconnected.
