I received the same call at noon and my husband recognized the name McGraw Hill as a publisher. I recently had contact with publishers but not this one. I did not answer the phone because I was not expecting McGraw Hill to call me. I decided to look the number up and it brought me here. Glad I did not answer the phone. By the way the Do Not Call List is a big joke. If your phone company has the ability to block numbers, use it.
Received a call from #212-438-7895, McGraw Hill, at 10:00 AM this morning, June 18, 2012. The very aggressive, heavily accented man attempted to scare me with information he knew of problems with our computer. I couldn't understand him very well and after allowing him some time to state his business I curtly said no thanks and hung up. The phone rang again immediately but I disconnected without answering. When I called the # myself I heard a recording from McGraw Hill Securities about their # being "spoofed" and to please report this incident.
If you are receiving telephone calls with the caller id displaying telephone # 212 438-7895 please be advised that it is a scam. The scammers may ask you to call back at telephone # 866 539-8674 which claims to be a company," Arjunaa Internet Security". After interviewing several people the caller has identified themselves initially from McGraw-Hill. Once again the call is a scam and they want access to your computer and credit card and may be installing viruses in your computer.
Please do not fall for this scam.
The telephone # 212 438-9875 was shut down however the scammers continue to use it via spoffing on the caller id. We have put the number back in service only to alert the public of the scam. The company has no way to stop the overseas callers from dialing and harassing the public. Please report the scam to the FCC. They will not investigate complaints reported by corporations. If enough reports are filed with the FCC by the public they will review further as per the FCC.
Do not answer any further calls from these numbers. They then move on to the next vicitm who may have read this.
