I had to answer this note. My husband passed away three tears ago the first of November, So I am also a widow.
The caller hangs up after 4 rings so I never spoke to him/it . When I tried to call back the number is NOT is service.
I had my phone number unlisted [ landline] and how can you add to Do Not Call when the number ""IS NOT IN USE""
My daughter gave a cell phone so most of the family and emergency calls are on the cell phone.
Ellie ~ I know exactly how you feel being alone makes the "asinine" calls. My husband traveled quite a bit so sometimes it dulls the pain of the corrupt a$$e$ that make the calls. You will be in my thoughts with good wishes. Also ~REALLY amazing about our names being so much akin.
I know how you feel in other ways, I am in ill health this home phone is just for business calls and the people that use this number keep calling. I have been turning them over to The Do Nothing Centre and of couse nothing is done about it. I have even looked the person's name and address up and still the DNC do nothing. Yes you can call the number back and it tells you it is not in service. AT&T will do nothing either even though you are paying for the name and number of people to show, they want to charge you for another service to answer the phone and ask who it is and so on, I am not paying them for anything else, they could stop this crud if they wanted to.
The number displayed is usually a random number that was used to spoof the caller ID data. One day I came home to find that my number was displayed on a call to my number. Apparently they goofed on the script and it displayed the number being called instead.
Spoofing is pretty common now. The good thing is that once the number is set, they generally keep using the same number (unless they goof like they did above) so that means it'll call rejection will last for a little while anyway. If you are limited to how many you can reject (I'm only allowed 10) you can keep a log of when it was added and delete the oldest in case you need "room".

I am sick and tired of getting these calls. I am signed up on do not call and it does not help.
The phone number was from 212 662-9720, how do I block this CRAP?
I was having a terrible time with calls like this 4 and 5 times a day and into the evening. I cannot block because I have Vonage. Went on Amazon and bought a blocker for $40, and for the most part, I don't get them anymore. The Do Not Call list is only good for telemarketers that care whether or not you want their calls.
