I just received the same message. It was a recording from a Steve Martin (with an accent) from the US Treasury enforcement department and I was going to be taken to federal court if I didn't pay. I don't owe any money. He said " Help us to help you". I got this call 3x's in a row yesterday on my home telephone. Have been trying to call the IRS ever since but cant get through at the 800-829-1040 number.
This is a SCAM!! If you get a call from this number-it is not legit! FRAUD-BEWARE
I received a call and message from a man with a middle eastern accent claiming to be from the US Treasury Department. He said that legal action was being taken against me for money owed. When I called back, they answer that they are the US Treasury Department. I did not give him much chance to talk. I told him I researched his number, I know it's a scam, and I would be notifying the authorities. He hung up after that. They are trying to get credit information.
Man with foreign accent called said his name was Ryan Gibson and I owed money from 2011. He said he was from they US Department of Treasury and legal enforcement. I called the US department of fraud they were not much help but gave me advice on what to say if he called back. I would have all my assets seized and my property. He said I didn't receive a letter because I had a company do my taxes and they never sent me a letter. If I didn't prove I could clear this matter up immediately I would be taken into custody within 1 hour. I asked him what address that would happen and he said we will find you. I kept asking why he was calling me on a number that wasn't the department of treasury (I was looking it up on the computer while talking) and he said I wasn't taking this seriously and they would be coming to take me into custody and hung up.
this foreign speaking man who claimed to be KEVIN PETERSON told me that all my assets would be sold, warrant for my arrest, 5 years in jail no bail, all this [***]. its a scam... tell him to F off.
I got a call from this number this morning and as soon as he said in a foreign accent he was from the US Treasury dept. I hung up on him and never let him finish. I have gotten these types of calls before from people claiming to be the IRS and know for a fact it is a SCAM. Neither the IRS nor the US Treasury Dept. will contact you by phone, they will send you letters by mail, snail mail. They have to go thru the court system to cease property, freeze bank accounts and arrest you. I found all this out when I was contacted before and my CPA told me the above info. I also looked on IRS.gov and they talk about these SCAMS. So as some of the above people say, tell them to F off!
Same here - Kevin Peterson (ID 11538 / Dept of Legal Affairs) told me I would be arrested and wanted my cell phone number so I could take my cell phone with me to buy vouchers for money to the IRS.
