I actually had the same problem, I was so out of it that I confirmed the zip code. I've cancelled my card, but I was hoping you could tell me how you dealt with the problem, since your post was made about a year ago I thought you might be able to help.
They called from "customer service" of Vista about my purchase, and they gave me four last digits of my credit card for this purchase. I don't have such credit card, at least for few years. They would not tell what's the purchase, when it was purchased and from what company. I told them I am not interested.
Eight calls in the past 24 hours to my cell...I haven't answered any of them and I am SO glad I found this site. Some people have nothing better to do...obviously!!!
Today it started with me on home phone. First two times the number showed up, I answered on second or third ring. As soon as I answered I got the dial tone. Third time tonight I picked up on first ring and didn't say anything. I heard a connect and a lady's voice says my first name in a questioning voice. My number is unlisted plus answer machine has a generic male's voice that doesn't give out any information. I never said anything but hung on till they hung up.
I know they can't be calling due to balances or anything of that nature and I always check online when an unrecognizable phone number shows up on my caller ID. We monitor all calls. I trust no one especially over phone or via emails.
You'd think there'd be a way to stop this by giving folks the means to block callers without a hassle with the telephone company. Do Not Call lists are a joke from what I've experienced as well. Then you have these creeps trying to swindle people.
I especially feel for those whose cell phones are being called!
What I'd like to do is ditch my phone until the telephone companies provide us a way to control this!
Maybe if everyone cancelles thier credit cards & let the credit card co. know why. They will put these scamers out of bussiness.Nothing else seems to work!!
