This caller was supposedly calling for donations for a firefighters fund. When I asked what percent of the money they collected actually went to firefighters, the caller said it depended on how much money was collected. The law says they have to tell you what percent actually goes to the people or cause they collect for. I told the caller I would never donate to their scam and hung up ...
We donate directly to our local firefighters - not to a middleman.
Travis somebody or other called on behalf of the Montgomery County Career Firefighters Association. Addressed me by my wife's name, told me he was glad to hear a friendly voice, maundered on about he must have spoken with every single person in the county today...
I literally had ENOUGH of the preamble leading-up to the unsolicited sales pitch so I placed the phone on hold and observed him continuing to talk for 38 more seconds before he finally disconnected!
I will never give to any of the hokey fundraisers over the phone.
Every year right around labor day, I see tons of REAL firefighters on the main roads, usually standing in the traffic islands with the "boot". I donate to these guys EVERY TIME. Montgomery Fire does an excellent job and deserves additional funding but NEVER from these knuckleheads on the phone!
