Caller ID just shows "Maryland" and the phone number. Didn't leave a message. I think this is the first call I have received from this particular number.
These guys call to solicit donations for firefighters, police, state police, and their injured, widows and children. It's all the same PAID fundraising organization that draws on a single database w/info from all these sources. I gave once in honor of a neighbor killed on duty, and now I get calls all the time, always high pressure and always rude. If you want to give, call your local fire or police dept. and ask for a better way.
The phone rings, I pick it up, answer it... and I hear a momentary pause, which tells me it's an auto-dialer. When I hear a human voice, the guy is talking to someone sitting next to him about his taxes and how he forgot to turn them in or do them or something. It takes about five or six seconds and he realizes he's connected. He asks if so and so (my wife) is in... I tell him, "not if you're gonna talk about your taxes!" I'm REALLY tired of these guys calling. I'm gonna come up with a really fun way to mess with them next time they call. :-)
Called the number back. Only got a message that it is Montgomery County Firefighters. Phone solicitations are the best way they have to raise money, goes the recording. I don't make enough money, either. I think I will get on the phone and shake down thousands of people. It's the best way I can think of to raise money.
