Definitely a bad player. This number called my cell. When called back I received a recording asking for date of birth, social security number and full name under the guise of the "opt out" program. I hadn't called the "do not call" number for over a year. Very slick recorded voice but I believe it's a more sophisticated version of Phishing.
Dumb enough to call them back and verify through their system that your number is live and is owned by a potential mark?
Sorry if that seems harsh but these people will not stop until their scams don't generate as much profit as they'd like. The only thing preventing that from happening is the gullibility of people who think "opting out" of a criminal scam is actually a valid option.
Called apparently from my recent use of Equifax for my yearly credit report - called them back (I was gonna block it anyway) and they want to make you offers - in order to opt out they wanted my SS# - SERIOUSLY - did they think I was dumb enough to give it to them on order to opt out - NO WAY - I just put a block on them with the AT&T Uverse system - works every time.
They called my cell phone with a prerecorded message saying they were a public advocacy group and gave instructions to press #1 if I ever had deep vein thrombosis problems, stroke, etc. I didn't hear the full list since I promptly hung up. My cell phone # is on the 'do not call list' and so this sort of crap really burns me up. I wish there had been a human on the other end of the line so I could have told them off.
