The nice thing about the truth is it's true whether you believe it or not - so yes, you're right, it doesn't really matter.  But it's funny that you automatically assume that since I disagree with you I must also be a scammer.  In point of fact I'm not, I use these pages on 800Notes to update my own contacts list so I can block scammers, just like you.  But unlike you, I don't automatically assume that every call from an "unknown" phone number is immediately a scammer.  You're right though, it IS prudent to always call the company directly to ensure the call wasn't a scam.  I just happen to know, as do Jana and other cautious-but-not-paranoid people, that the number 313-962-8595 is legitimately Chase Bank.

Then you should know that criminals can "spoof" that number. In fact, I think you know that very well!
Paranoia? That's a laugh! The first thing that Chase, or any other bank, will tell you is to call them back if there is the SLIGHTEST doubt about the caller. The next thing they'll tell you is what a legitimate caller from one of their departments will ask. It will NOT be for complete account or SS numbers!
In this day & age no one should EVER deal with someone who calls "out of the blue". Not EVER! It's not Paranoia, it's common sense. If a bank calls, call the bank back. If a credit card company calls, call them back. ALWAYS call back a VERIFIED number! Criminals rely on gullibility & naivety. I'm neither & I don't get scammed. NOT EVER!

I think you're missing (maybe intentionally) Gunnar's point.

Anyone can 'spoof' (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caller_ID_spoofing) their caller ID to make it mimic the number on the back of your chase card. Therefore, it's prudent to say, "I'm so sorry, let me call you right back," and independently call the number on the back of your card and get connected with someone who is (without a doubt) from Chase.

More and more often, believing the number on your Caller ID display is a dangerous gamble.

The more wriggling you do the more obvious you make yourself. You seem to have a decided interest in making the callers from this number "believable". I think that anyone reading your posts is going to see right away why that's so!
The only thing that I've said is to call Chase back if you receive a call from this number. You don't like that advice one bit do you? You call that advice "paranoid ramblings". Now, why would someone do that? On the one hand you agree with my statements, on the other they're "paranoid ramblings"... You've given yourself away. You've as much as admitted that you're involved in using this number to defraud people of money that is not owed to you or your co-scammers in any way. Congratulations! You're a bottom feeding scrounger who has gotten his hands on some junk paper & is having trouble making it pay off. "Life in the fast lane" just doesn't move like you hoped it would does it?
Skeff Ett Liv!

This is Chase Bank. It is not one of their usual 800 numbers for one reason- it's a collection department.

Don't want to talk to them? Cell phone users try going to the app store and getting a call blocker app. Presto! No more annoying calls. Well, they actually can still call you but the call blocker app will make it so you won't be bothered by them. You can block calls to go straight to voicemail or you can block calls to be hung up on the instant they try to call you. Either way your phone will no longer ring for any call you don't want. End of the problem is as simple as that. Home phone users, there are devices you can buy that do pretty much the same thing. Look into it at your local hardware/electronics store. No need to rant about how much you hate being bothered. We all hate that. Come here to report the call so that people know that there is A report on that number and can find out who's been bothering people. Beyond that nothing anybody here can do for you other than offer this advice and that's as far as you're going to get. You could try the Do Not Call list routine but, to be honest, you're going to have better luck with the call blocker apps and devices.
