This thread shows the possibilities of financial institutions use of corrupt. abusive, and exploitative debt collection tactics. Auto-dialers used under the disguise of debt collection / reminder calls / skip tracing. Then there's their connection with one of the more predatory debt collection networks under JP Morgan Chase Co called NCO Group. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-1 ... ses-harris-says

This is Chase Bank. Called back, they did not ask for my social...only my name. They asked if I bank with Chase and I said no. They said they apologize and they will remove me from the call log. Sounded legit to me. If you have a recycled phone number, this could be the problem.

Called the number back and they said they were Chase. The man asked for my social security number (not just the last 4) which I refused to give. He said it was concerning a debt, which I know was taken care of already and have documentation of, and when I asked for something in writing he asked me to verify my address but refused to give me the address they had. After I asked again for that info because he had my account in front of him he said he could not actually see that info and would send it to the address they had. Major Red Flags!!

These people called my cell phone 10 times but they used different area codes and numbers .They had 313-962-8595 then 347-329-4477 then 718-395-9477 . this is [***]. They know its tax return season and want you to set up a payment arrangement On a debt that they pulled up on your credit report. Even if you already paid it or not . this is a fake company that just wants your money. And they do this to many people across the world.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site:  http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
