UPDATE: I took the call from them at 8 a.m. this morning and played into their game to get as much info as possible. They are reading from scripts, and if you ask them anything that goes off-script, they transfer you. I spoke to 3 people this morning: Louis Wilson, Heather Lawson and Ben Foster. In looking up Heather Lawson, I see complaints about this scam dating back to 2006!! Why can't we stop this?! This personal information should not be released when people apply for a payday loan.
When I asked for an address, they gave me 42 Broadway 5th Floor NY, NY 10004, and said they are the DCA Law Firm - Department of Corporate Affairs. In actuality, there IS a DCA at this address, but it is the NYC Department of Consumer Affairs.
When "Ben Foster" no longer felt like making up stories to answer my questions (such as "If this was in collections, why haven't I received a written notice within 5 days of initial contact, as per the law under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA)?"), he said they would go ahead and process my file and we could deal with it at the courthouse on Monday. I sweetly answered "Oh yes, let's go ahead and do that." He was a bit surprised and then asked for my attorney's info, so I said "Yes, he definitely wants to talk to you" and gave him the info. Then I told him that we were aware this is a scam, that I have already reported him to the FTC and FBI, and that all calls were being recorded. I told him to never ever call here again or he would be the one showing up at the courthouse. I hung up. No callback yet. I am sick to my stomach with what these people are doing to scared, financially-strapped people.
I got a call yesturday stating that i owe money from a paday loan.... the number they called me from was and 1000 number they left a message leaving a number 3155192921 saying if i dont call back then good luck.. i call back and the first person i talk to said that i owe a payday loan that was being wired to my account when i told him i never had a payday loan that was wired to my account he transfer me over to a guy who last name green... when i told him i never had money wired to my account he then said it was the company i appled the loan to did the loan procees online.. i then began to ask why i was not infrom he said he infrom me through email, i told him i recieve my emails daily through my blackberry and i never saw and email and he then said that he was in my junk mail that i saign a contract that would only be contact through my email.. i later explain that i wopuld never do such a thing i read my contrat he said if i do pay 1800 doallars then my two friends and my job will be sued 5000 dollars.. he aslo told me that he was calling my refrences but my friends never recieved a call.. he said if i dont take care of it he said the will pic up today.. I really believe this is a SCAM notice when the call it seem like a hot line in the back round which the same statments are being said over and over... if somone is going to sue you the would provid infromation, and why would the provid a lawyer for u.. i am going to the pilice bc these people have my soc and my bank info.. they can do anything w our information..
I received a call about 1/2 hour ago with the number 315-519-2921. I was at lunch so it went right to my voicemail. The girl identified herself as Christine Bennett, she had an accent, but did not leave the name of the company that she was with. I heard alot of background noise, almost like people yelling at other people. All she said that the second I receive this voicemail to call back immediately. If I didn't call back immediately, she said that all she could do was wish me good luck. After reading all of the other messages about this phone number, I think I will wait til I leave work tonight to return their call.
My mom has gotten these calls as well. 1 today as a matter of fact. This guy said he would serve her with papers if she didnt pay 1800 dollars. After they kept playing hot potato on the phone passing us off to different people I got on the phone after doing some research on the phone number.. Why would a new york law firm have a 315 area code. Also my girlfriend is a lawyer. LLC is usually at the end of a firms name not the begining. Seriously the internet is a beautiful thing.
I got a voicemail at work. Someone with a thick middle eastern accent telling me to call back the second I got the message. They wished me luck and said if I don't call back they can't help me. I have gotten calls from these type of people before. They offer zero information and want money. They buy lists from payday loan companies and scam people. DO NOT PAY THESE PEOPLE!
I just got a call on my cell phone from this number...it won't allow me to return the call this happened to me before last year with a different number but for the same reason it was so annoying so I did go to the police and they pulled up hundreds if not thousands of reports for a guy going by Johnny Blaze
