"Claim" to be IRS "officer" with the number 3475590378 and that my name and SS# is involved in a pending tax criminal case. Barely spoke english and only seem to have my name and phone number and nothing else. Told me to to call 877-395-4886. Don't believe these guys! SCAMMERS
Today these scumbags left a second message on my voice mail. Some guy with a thick accent calling himself "Sebastian" said he was from the tax audit division of the IRS and that I am being investigated for tax fraud, and that I should call back (866) 341-3140 or he will call the "federal claim courthouse" and have the "sheriffs" arrest me. The message was verbatim word for word with the first message, so he was obviously reading from a script. I was tempted to call them back and insult them, but I called a buddy of mine who is a detective with the local police fraud division, and he said not to waste my time. He told me that these crooks target the elderly and immigrants. He said the best I can do is to block the number, but then they'll just use another number. I really wish that there was some way to take these scumbags down.
I got a call from 866-341-3140, also claiming to be with IRS audit department and i was being arrested as soon as we hung up. he said they audited me from 2008 to 2012 and I was being prosecuted for tax fraud. Clearly a scam. So, I kept pressing as to what I needed to do to resolve as he laid out a doom and gloom scare tactic of arrest, home and asset loss, moving out of my home and on and on. He had my address and I asked him to provide me with my tax ID #. he couldn't. ultimately he gave me an option to stay on the phone to pay $4k or dispute it and I would be arrested. I chose to dispute and he hung up.
Some things to remember and pass on.
Audits; You have to be present during any audit.
Prosecution; There are countless steps to take before prosecution and can take years.
Fines; There are no immediate fines over the phone, they will work out a payment plan first.
Best of all....badge number. They are required to provide a badge number. If the caller does not provide one ASK FOR ONE! Most important.
I received another call from them today and the foreign accent person named Sebastian Dualt istammered thru his dialogue. Told me that if I did not return the call I would be evicted because I had committed some kind of a crime that had something to do with tax evasion or tax fraud and was from the tax audit department of the IRS. What is also disturbing is that I am getting eviction notices from a realty company because my mortgage is behind - I own my home. I am also getting emails from them to appear in court for some or another trumped up reason. Each of these emails has a document attached that I am supposed to open which will make me fall into their trap. I don't want to give up my email address, but it is getting to the point that I need to seriously think about this just to get away from this harassment until they find my new address.
Recd similar call for being arrested. I have a policy not to pick up phone if caller is not identified. This caller seemed SSI. Message was in my voice mail several times. I just do not pick up.
